How Do I Add More Images To Amazon2?

This FAQ assumes you have Amazon2 installed and working, and you would like to add more images to the random image rotation. Amazon2 comes with a few default images, but they're only meant to get you started.

There isn't an interfaced method to add images [such as a component], but you can do it by uploading saved images to a predetermined directory on your server. Let me explain, when Amazon2 is installed on your server it creates a directory under the modules directory [something like: modules/amazon2_images [4]]. This directory is where the default images are saved and is the location to upload any saved images from Amazon.com.

Note: you may open the parameters area of this module for the actual location of your Amazon2 images directory [it may not be the same location as in this FAQ]. The location will show up as a parameter that you can modify and is always based on the root of your CMS install.

Example: modules/amazon2_images

The example above might expand to http://www.yourdomain.com/modules/amazon2_images, where the module would add the reported root domain [in this example it's http://www.yourdomain.com] to the modules/amazon2_images relative path.

Requirements

  • Amazon Affiliate ID [3]. You can signup for your Amazon Affiliate ID at Amazon.com
  • An FTP Client. If you need a Windows FTP Client, then give FileZilla a try.
  • Joomla! v1.0+ or Mambo v4.5.1+ installed [2]. Refer to the documentation of your CMS of choice for installation instructions.

Adding Images To Amazon2

  • Browse for items. Go to Amazon.com and select items based on topics that you or your visitors might enjoy.
  • Save the images [4]. Once you've found an item that you want Amazon2 to rotate, save the image for that item to your machine. Do this for all items you want Amazon2 to rotate.
  • Upload images to server [4]. All that's left to do is transfer the saved images to the Amazon2 image directory [4] on your server. You will need a FTP Client or some other method to transfer images. The default image location is modules/amazon2_images and your FTP Client should be set to transfer gif or jpg images in binary.

Amazon2 Notes

  1. Location of Amazon2 Download.
  2. Joomla! / Mambo are known as a Content Management System (CMS) or in this case Content Management Systems (CMSs), and are designed to simplify the content updating that all Web Masters go through. Content updating only skims the surface of  the true capabilities that either of these CMSs can provide.
  3. 'Affiliate ID' are often alphanumerical strings that specifically identifies you or your domain name as the sender of the visitor that clicked on a given Sponsor/Vendor link. This method allows you to be compensated for any purchases that visitor makes. Generally speaking, Affiliate IDs are used as a means to collect commissions on sales that you or your Web Site/s produce.
  4. Amazon2 Image Location. The default image location is modules/amazon2_images, which is created by the CMS install routines and is based on the CMS root. You can modify this directory [image] location by using the module parameters section for this module.
